Design Is A Bridge Between Function & Experience
#DesignExplore hung out with Ojoma Ochai, Director of Arts at the Nigeria British Council. Ojoma is in charge of the Creative Economy Programme where she basically builds skills, networks and other capacities that promote the growth and collaboration potential of the sector. As a member of the UNESCO Pool of Experts on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, she was nominated as The Future Awards Young Person of the Year in 2010 and was once named one of the 10 most influential people under 40 in Nigerian Arts and Culture. She is an International Fellow of the DEVOS International Institute of Arts Management, Kennedy Centre of Performing Arts, Washington DC, USA.
An avid reader and passionate about Nigeria, Ojoma never considers herself as a career person, but rather believes in the philosophy that anything worth doing is worth doing well, and so she applies this to both her personal and professional life. She notes that “if I can be bothered to do anything, then I would have to put everything I’ve got in it to make sure I succeed at it”. As a Director at British Council Nigeria, one can comfortably say she has a rewarding and interesting career with a portfolio of work that is varied and fluid, ensuring she remains engaged at all times. We added one to the list and she readily obliged.
