Adèle Dejak
Nigerian-born Adèle Dejak’s line of sculptural fashion accessories in gold, bone, ostrich shell and traditional cloth has its roots in the heart of Kenya. Her bold, powerful designs reflect Dejak’s defining sense of the strong contemporary African woman and has led to design projects with Italian fashion house, Ferragamo.
Talking to Vogue about what inspires her creative process, Dejak enthused: : “My creative process begins with an inspirational starting point, something that strikes me. I start my research on shapes and textiles; I take photos, look at art books, and magazines then start to sketch my pieces. But I am also very much influenced by the environment around me: people and nature. For the jewellery I translate my ideas to the horn artisans and metal casters through plastacin molds. From there we develop the shapes, then I start to physically construct the piece.” Aside her creation of textile pieces, Dejak also launched “AD Interiors” where she uses her patterns in textile design to create stunning household decorations and artifacts.
