In a Nigerian clime dominated by unhealthy stereotyping in gender expression, and the tendency to define individuality by laid down rules and ideas, Adebayo’s Orange Culture Brand is a movement. Our Icon for the third series has been using fashion design as a tool for positive social change. He is a global fashion superstar, brilliant entrepreneur, opulent designer, and an unapologetic advocate of the fluid lifestyle.
Adebayo Oke-Lawal
Adebayo Oke-Lawal has been designing since the age of 10, and since officially entering the fashion industry, he’s dabbled in writing and styling, But design is his greatest passion, and since starting the label in 2011, he’s been hard at work trying to bring Orange Culture to the world. It’s hard to believe, with all he’s accomplished, that he hasn’t even lived a quarter-century.
‘Bayo’s garments answer to just about anyone who’s interested in telling a story with the way they present themselves. It is a “movement” that covers universal silhouettes with an African touch to a creative class of men, translating into a heady mixture of Nigerian inspired print fabrics, color, and contemporary urban streetwear. Aside from fashion design, creative director Adebayo Oke-Lawal also worked for three years as the fashion editor for WOW! magazine, and. has styled numerous celebrities such as Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic, Munachi, Lala Akindoju, Ice Prince and has done editorial work for magazines like Vogue Italia, Nataal, WOW and many more.
Since its inception, the brand and its creative director have been featured in Vogue, NY Times, Dazed, Id, Elle, Marie Claire, Voice of America, Financial Times, Wings, and the list goes on and on. the brand has been a finalist for huge design platforms like the LVMH (Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennesey ) prize – where he was picked alongside 29 of the hugest emerging designers from all over the world.
