Introduction
Visual Storytelling is expressing a narrative via visual medias such as still photography, illustration, or video, and can be enhanced with graphics, music, voice and other audio. The visual media is the most valued and important medium of communication in today’s fast-evolving world. To create impactful stories and translate messages effectively, there is the need to master the art of the visual media. This session presents Mathias Aragbada, one of the best Visual Storyteller in the country and CD/CEO of Dudutoonz. It is an excursion into the vital points needed to create a compelling visual narrative across multiple mediums.

Matthias Aragbada is a multi-creative award winner whose works span across drawing, painting, illustration, animation, graphic design, motion graphics, photography, and filmmaking. Inspired by his rich multi-cultural experiences, he is the founder and Creative Director of Dudutoonz Studios, set up to celebrate the creativity inherent in ‘Black’ people, as ‘dudu’ is the Yoruba word for black.
Aragbada has over 10 years of working experience in the media communication industry and has completed several branding projects,
television commercials and documentaries for reputable multinational companies eg ( Coca-Cola Nigeria, Reckitt Benkiser, PWC, Samsung Nigeria to mention a few), individuals, advertising agencies and entertainment houses. He also trains young people who he sees as the future,
at his Dudutoolz Academy Digital Art School.
In 2018, he won an American embassy photography recognition award. He created the trophy and branding for Nigeria’s biggest music awards Hip-hop world now called the Headies. In 2017, Aragbada shot and directed his first short film Providence, a period paranormal thriller. The short was featured for screening at national and international film festivals like the Real Time Film Festival, Nigeria, Afro Film Festival Ananse in Columbia,
Lake International Poetry and Film Festival in Kenya and the Fright Night Film Festival in Louisiana. It also was selected to screen for Best Short Film at The African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) which took place in Lagos Nigeria.
