Africa Design Radio Podcast Houses the Conversations We Should Be Having
Just like the steady thump of a speaker’s bass, creativity has a pulse and Design Activist, Chibueze Ewuzie offers a medium to effectively keep it beating. His brainchild, Africa Design Radio is a platform for creative inspiration. It is an audio journey into the minds of some of Africa’s most brilliant artists and designers in order to explore the world of design and effectively chart its impact on the future of Africa.
The new age is frantic. Technology and information have enhanced unprecedented innovations and ideas. This age promises a new height for the currency of creativity. It presents a chance to apply innovation in developing the African continent, cultures, and stories.
”The reason I started the podcast was to rethink how design can be used to shape a better future for Africans. I figured the way to do that was to improve human capacity by closing the knowledge gap through enlightening conversations with thought leaders and notable professionals in the industry”, Chibueze tells Mbari Uno.
Chibueze is the co-founder of DesignLab by Adire; a platform that bridges the gap between the design Town and Gown, and he is the deputy coordinator of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Lagos chapter. For him, the podcast is a knowledge mine for design and a platform for inspiration. The conversation it will birth will be an opportunity to unearth the potential of the Africa design industry through inspiring interactions with seasoned designers and thought leaders. ADR is a collective and dynamic platform. It stems from a genuine need to proselytize design and to educate and entertain through it. It is an experience that leads to discovery.
”We will explore the full spectrum of design through these conversations and that includes art, architecture, fashion, interior design, organization design, process design, product design & fabrication; to mention a few” says Chibueze.
The first episode of Africa Design Radio is in conversation with Ayanda Carter, Interior, and Set Designer. CEO of Iroko Interior Design, and AMVCA nominee. The episode was a 30 minutes insight into the guest’s life and work. With questions ranging from if she’s related to Jay Z and what her design methods and ideologies are. The conversation is an interesting and educative expose that spotlights the platform’s promise to be an unmatched platform for the designer’s inspiration and the neutral’s entertainment and information.
Design activism is all the more meaningful if it’s directed towards using design as a tool of social development. For Africa, there are limitless opportunities left unexplored and Africa Design Radio has partnered with Cultural Intellectual Association (CIA) to use the podcast as a medium to advocate for the inclusion of creative thinkers in the decision-making process in Africa.
